Witch Tip #3: Your Coffee is a Spell!
Have you ever considered making your morning ritual an actual ritual and leaning in to the magical associations of coffee?
Witches tend to use coffee to quicken a spell, but I also think coffee has its place in witchcraft as the drink we know and love. If you think about it, our relationship to our morning caffeine is already so ritualistic, grounding, and joyful. The process of making it each day is often meditative, which is especially true for pourover, my favorite way to brew. For these reasons, my personal associations for coffee are grounding, focus, and joy.
Most of us don’t take our coffee black, so are some common magical associations for popular coffee additions.
Cinnamon - prosperity, abundance
Honey - sweetness, luck
Lavender - calming, cleansing
Hazelnut - wisdom, protection
Chocolate - pleasure, mysticism
Vanilla - attraction, contentment
Milk/cream - nurturing, purity
Oat milk - good fortune, abundance
Almond milk - mental clarity, vitality
After reading this list, does your favorite coffee creation suddenly sound like a powerful spell you get to set each morning?
Some more good news: your witchcraft is up to you! If you have a completely different sense of what coffee—or any of the ingredients mentioned here—bring into your life magically, that is good. I am so glad you are following what resonates for you.
Regardless of what’s in the cup, you can always set an intention over it before you pour. Then seal it in with a stir, either clockwise to strengthen your intention, and/or counterclockwise to ward off unwanted energies. Of course, you can stir in another symbol, such as a pentacle, rune, or a self-made sigil.
If you want it to, your morning cup of coffee (or matcha, or tea, ore juice) can become a spell that you’re putting on your day.
