Witch Tip #4: How to Wear Your Color Magic
Most of us witches engage in color magic as a core part of our practice. Even if you don't, I bet there are colors you gravitate towards (even subconsciously) for your candles, crystals, tools, and surroundings. If this resonates, read the rest of this a mini guide to utilizing color magic in your outfits.
But first, an overall foray into color magic.
The way I see it, color magic is simply making the conscious choice to imbue objects with more meaning due to their color. Since witchcraft is a deeply personal practice, every magic practitioner has their own sense of what each color signifies. If you have no idea where to start, here are several ways to spark your connection to color magic.
1) There are some common meanings we see for colors across cultures. Many witches look to the colors associated with each chakra.
2) Now think about the belongings you use every day, like coffee mugs, shoes, candles, bedding, hair ties, you emotional-support water bottle, your phone case, etc.
Is there a main color that shows up again and again? If so, do you reach for this color because it puts you in a particular emotional or mental state?
If there are many different colors, did you choose the color of you water bottle because you associate it with water or health? Did you choose your bedding color because you associate it with rest, relaxation, or passion? Are your favorite shoes a color that makes you feel comfortable or confident?
3) If neither of those worked for you, try thinking back to your school days. Did you have a consistent color folder/binder for each subject? Was science green because biology deals with life, plants and the earth? Or was social studies green because itβs the color you imagine ideas and conversations to be?
Take some time to meditate or journal on each color. Aim to get a clear sense of what each color means to you, and how it can strengthen intentions around its themes. Below are my personal associations for the colors, as well as the element that I associate with each. Note that there is some redundancy and a few possible contradictions. Iβm not too concerned; two things can be true.
[earth = π | air = π | fire = π | water = π | spirit = β―]
Red π passion, confidence, grounding, mystery, prosperity
Orange π creativity, sweetness, fun
Yellow π joy, structure, warmth, growth
Green π intellect, generosity, vitality, nature, growth, communication
Blue π care, safety, emotions, sleep, communication
Purple πβ― intuition, comfort, mysticism, magic
Pink πβ― fun, rest, kindness, sweetness
Black πβ― protection, cleansing, mystery
White πβ― protection, cleansing, clarity
Brown/Beige π grounding, health, calm, determination
Now, letβs get dressed. When youβre building your outfits each day, you can start by seeing what colors you initially gravitate towards and then interpret. We could call it closet divination: βoh, I only feel like wearing black today, is there something I should be protecting today?β You can also use this as a way to strengthen your associations with colors. Alternatively, you can get more methodical and think about the day or activities you have planned before choosing an outfit. Are there specific goals that could use a boost? Are there expected challenges that need warding off? Are you feeling one way, but wishing you felt another way about your day?
When you integrate color magic into getting dressed each day, it results in a small act of glamor magic that brings intention to the forefront. Live a little more magically and wear your color magic!
